How to save electricity by changing your lightbulbs

  • Turn off outdoor lights during the day
  • Make effective use of daylight hours by opening the blinds, turning off the lights, and letting the sun light the room
  • Use dimmer switches to adjust the amount of light you need at any given time in the day.
  • Sounds simple - turn off the lights when you leave the room, lights left on in an empty room are wasting electricity
  • Install motion sensors - especially if renovating a school or office - so that the lights only turn on when someone enters the room
  • Use one large bulb instead of several smaller ones. One 100-watt bulb produces more light than two 60-watt bulbs, and uses less energy
  • switch to fluorescent lighting. it uses 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs
